MAGICAL MINDS (KS2)
Magical Minds is an inspiring day of dance performance and Dancing Mindfulness workshops designed for primary schools, focusing on mental health, emotional wellbeing, and self-awareness.
Through an engaging dance performance and workshops, children are invited to explore the world of emotions in a creative, accessible, and age-appropriate way. The programme helps children understand the importance of recognising and expressing their feelings while learning practical techniques to support emotional regulation and wellbeing.
-
What are the learning objectives?
-We encourage children to explore and talk about their emotions.
-We aim to help children understand the value of both positive and challenging emotions.
- We aim to equip children with simple, practical tools to support emotional regulation and wellbeing.
-We promote self-awareness, resilience, and positive mental health through movement and creativity.
How Does the Magical Minds Day Work?
Magical Minds can be tailored to meet the needs of your school and typically runs between 9:00am and 2:30pm.
Whole-School Performance & Q&A:
The day begins with an engaging dance theatre performance for the whole school, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session. The performance follows three characters on a journey to the centre of the brain to save the world from the mysterious Emotion Squasher.
Dancing Mindfulness Workshops:
Following the performance, schools can receive up to six 45-minute workshops throughout the day for KS2 as an introduction into the practice.
TEACHER IN RESIDENCY (KS1 & KS2)
Teacher in Residency is an early intervention project for Primary Schools using movement and mindfulness to support wellbeing. Our aim is to support and nurture all children aged 5-11 years old who are at risk of poor mental health, to help them recognise and understand their emotions and prevent them from reaching points of crisis.
-
How does Teacher in Residency work?
We work with each primary school to understand the needs of their students and develop a suitable timetable for the residency to take place.
The project provides each school with one Dancing Mindfulness Faciliatator for one school day per week for a minimum of 4 weeks, to a maximum of 20 weeks. The project involves up to 5 workshops per day with a maximum of 10 children per workshop.
How do we measure the impact?
We have developed a monitoring process in collaboration with Shona Leahy, Registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist to monitor the emotional wellbeing of children throughout their residencies.
What is the referral criteria for children to take part?
Schools are required to complete a referral form for each child and an evaluation form.
Reasons for referral:
• Difficulties with emotional regulation/emotional expression
• Low attendance/refusal to attend school
• Difficulties with relationships, for example with peers, adults or family
• Low self-esteem
• Anxiety
• Bereavement
• Challenging life transition or changes
LITTLE ME, BEING FREE (EYFS & KS1)
Little Me, Being Free is a touring dance theatre production for 2–6-year-olds, including Dancing Mindfulness workshops & resources to encourage creative delivery for staff.
This project focuses on developing emotional literacy. Through dance, children can express emotions non-verbally, helping them understand and articulate their feelings. Incorporating Mindfulness further supports emotional regulation and self-awareness.
Behind every behaviour is an emotion, if we begin to explore these emotions with 2-6 year olds and build on emotional literacy, we hope this will provide early intervention and prevent reaching crisis.
-
What are the learning objectives?
Little Me, Being Free aims to develop emotional literacy through dance, movement, and mindfulness.
Objectives:
1. Providing high-quality creative opportunities.
2. We aim to equip young children with a greater ability to recognise and express their emotions.
3. By incorporating mindfulness techniques into the project, we hope children will begin to understand how their emotions affect their thoughts and behaviour and develop tools to manage them.
MOVE & MIND (KS1 & KS2)
Move & Mind is a dance and physical activity project, specifically designed to engage inactive children who are currently not taking part in regular physical activity, often due to low confidence, anxiety, or negative associations with sport.
By using creative dance and mindfulness rather than competitive or performance-focused approaches, the project provides a non-threatening, accessible route into movement.
-
How does Move & Mind work?
Our team visits your school weekly to deliver up to 3x Move & Mind workshops for children identified and referred for additional wellbeing support. Each workshop lasts between 45 minutes - 1 hour.
What are the objectives of Move & Mind?
Move & Mind aligns closely with the Five Ways to Wellbeing framework:
Connect: Children build trusting relationships through creative group activities and reflective discussions.
Be Active: Dance and movement sessions increase physical activity levels in a safe, enjoyable way for children who are otherwise inactive.
Take Notice: Mindfulness practices help children focus on their bodies, thoughts, and feelings, developing self-awareness and emotional regulation.
Keep Learning: Each session introduces new movement skills, creative exploration, and coping strategies that can be used beyond the workshop.
Give: Group reflection encourages empathy, kindness, and gratitude, helping children recognise and celebrate one another’s strengths
