Inclusion and Diversity Policy

Introduction

Truefitt Collective Dance Theatre is dedicated to encouraging a supportive and inclusive culture amongst the whole workforces. It is within our best interest to promote diversity and eliminate discrimination in the workplace.

Our aim is to ensure that all employees and job applicants are given equal opportunity and that our organisation is representative of all sections of society. Each employee will be respected and valued and able to give their best as a result. We are opposed to all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination.

This policy should be read in conjunction with our Complaints policy and our Disciplinary & Grievance policy.

Background

The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society.

Equality and diversity can be defined as “promoting equality of opportunity for all, through diversity, giving each individual the chance to achieve their potential, free from prejudice and discrimination.”

The characteristics that are protected by the Equality Act 2010 are: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership (in employment only), pregnancy & maternity, race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins), religion or belief and sex or sexual orientation.

Responsibilities

The Directors are responsible for approving this policy and for reviewing it at least annually to ensure that inclusion, equity and diversity is continually promoted in the workplace. The Artistic Director is responsible for implementing and integrating the policy into daily operations. The Artistic Director is also responsible for monitoring it for compliance and for making suitable training available where required.

Scope

This policy applies to all employed & volunteer staff. Failure to comply with this policy could result in disciplinary action in accordance with the organisations Disciplinary and Grievance policy.

Policy

All employees, no matter whether they are part-time, full-time, temporary or volunteers, will be treated fairly and with respect. When we select candidates for employment, as volunteers, promotion, training or any other benefit, it will be on the basis of their aptitude and ability.

All employees including volunteers will be given help and encouragement to develop their full potential and utilise their unique talents. Therefore, the skills and resources of our organisation will be fully utilised and we will maximise the efficiency of our whole workforce.

We commit to:

  • create an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of all team members are recognised and valued.

  • create a working environment that promotes dignity and respect for every employee.

  • not tolerate any form of intimidation, bullying, or harassment, and to discipline those that breach this policy.

  • make training, development, and progression opportunities available to all staff.

  • promote equality in the workplace.

  • encourage anyone who feels they have been subject to discrimination to raise their concerns so we can apply corrective measures.

  • encourage employees to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

  • regularly review all our employment practices and procedures so that fairness is maintained at all times.

We will inform all employees including volunteers that an inclusion, equity and diversity policy is in operation and that they are obligated to comply with its requirements and promote fairness in the workplace.

The policy will also be drawn to the attention of funding agencies, stakeholders, participants and job applicants.
