MAGICAL MINDS

"I would definitely recommend a visit from his wonderful company.
We loved having the Magical Minds day. The children were really engaged with the performance and took part actively in the workshops afterwards. We did the Magical Minds day in October 2023 and now, four months later, the children are still using some of the terminology to help with grounding themselves. I believe the Magical Minds day is a perfect start to embedding self-regulation strategies in school and the dance element increases our children's cultural capital" - Jenny, Assistant Headteacher (Sauncey Wood Primary School)

Magical Minds is a day of Dance performance and Dancing Mindfulness workshops offered to Primary Schools that focuses on mental health and positive wellbeing. Magical Minds provides children with a creative exploration into the human mind through dance performance and tools to increase their ability to self-regulate their emotions through the workshops.

01 Objectives

  • To encourage children to think about emotions

  • Educate children about the importance of both positive and negative emotions

  • Through the character of the Emotion Squasher, highlight the importance of not suppressing emotions

  • Educate children about the human mind and how the brain helps us to survive

  • Every child takes part in a Dancing Mindfulness workshop

  • Provide children with instant techniques for them to cope with their emotions

  • Facilitate Dancing Mindfulness for children to continue practicing within their classroom environment and even take home to practice with their family and friends

If you are from a Primary School  and would like to book  a tour date or find out more about the project, please check out our information pack (click on PDF)

02 A Day Of Magical Minds

Magical mids runs from 9:00AM - 14:00PM and can be tailor made for your school requirements.

PERFORMANCE:

9:30AM - 10:00AM

Three characters embark on a journey to the centre of the brain to save everyone from the Emotion squasher. The Emotion Squasher tells everyone that if they squash their emotions they can feel good all the time, in reality we find that by doing this we won't get very far on our journey in life. On their journey, they experience many emotions; a happy dance, sad dance, nervous dance and angry dance but when they finally make it to the centre of the brain, they realise that all these emotions have helped them to survive.

DANCING MINDFULNESS WORKSHOPS

10:00AM - 14:00PM (6x 45 minute workshops)

Dancing Mindfulness workshops use Movement, music and Mindfulness-in-motion to reach a place of greater awareness. The core principles of the workshops are; non-judgement, letting go, trust, patience and acceptance. Dancing Mindfulness increases connectivity in the frontal lobe of the brain which increases children's ability to self-regulate their emotions, self awareness, social awareness and self-confidence. The workshops are carefully and age appropriately devised to continue referencing the Magical Minds performance  ensuring engagement and awareness of being present, through props and creative guided movement.

Dancing Mindfulness increases empathy and the ability to understand what another may be feeling which improves children awareness and helps them to build positive strong relationships. Dancing Mindfulness reduces the severity of depression, anxiety and ADHD in children. The practice of Dancing Mindfulness can continue to be practiced within a classroom / school environment and children can even begin to use it at home to help them cope with emotions.
